1998 - Small Business Growth & Employment

A new Gerber Edge model 2 came on the market which was simply a much faster printer than the original Gerber Edge. I decided to invest in two of these expensive machines not only to meet the increasing demand for computerised signwriting but also to prevent any complete disruption in our work due to machine breakdown. The one disadvantage of computerised machines is that you are totally at the mercy of machine suppliers and engineers for electronic repairs - both in terms of cost and delay stoppages.

Thanks to six good employees at this time and many new customers the business finally began to grow. It seems ironic that tax generated by workers in a small business like ours can be used to fund state business "support" agencies. During 30 years of manufacturing work the only government "assistance" that ever came through our door has been regular tax payment inspections.
