Why are safety signs important?

Safety signs are vitally important to remind employees to be careful and remain alert at all times to any potential hazards that exist at the workplace.

The importance of safety can never be taken for granted as 46 people died in workplace accidents in Ireland in 2019. That’s an 18% rise from the previous year when 39 people died. (HSA)

Where are safety signs needed?

Safety signs are needed near hazardous areas, such as around dangerous machines, by first aid equipment, by emergency exit routes, on dangerous pipes, and near many other hazardous areas in the workplace. If you are unsure as to what safety signs you need, feel free to contact us for some advice.

What do the colours of safety signs mean?

  • A red safety sign is used as a prohibition warning for example a no smoking in this area sign.
  • A yellow safety sign is to warn people to be careful. The symbol is triangular in shape with a black exclamation mark.
  • A blue safety sign is a mandatory sign to warn people to do a certain behaviour. e.g. Safety Helmets Must Be Worn Mandatory Sign
  • A green safety sign is to be used for emergency escape and first aid. e.g. First Aid Sign
  • An orange safety sign is generally associated with roadworks. e.g. Roadworks Ahead Sign

What size should my safety sign be?

  • Fire safety signs come in 150mm x 200mm and 300mm x 400mm.
  • Car Parking Signs come in 600 x 200mm
